Sports betting laws to be amended in North Dakota

A constitutional amendment bill introduced in the North Dakota House of Representatives was brought forward to permit online sports betting state wide for the first time.

The resolution was brought forward by seven House members and five Senate members, the majority of these coming from the Republican party.

The measure states that there would be the need of an authority on sports betting which would allow licenses and regularization by the state.

This is just the first step in making sports betting legal. The bill firstly has to pass through a majority ruling by both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Once this has been done, a referendum would be needed on the subject during the 2024 general election.

An attempt was already made in 2021 to make online sports betting legal state wide in North Dakota but they were futile.

Currently sports betting is only allowed at vendors, casinos and on tribal lands. This bill would extend the rights across the state.

This process is expected to take until 2025 until online sports betting would be allowed, given things run smoothly.
